Braille Translator

Translate between text and proper uncontracted English Unified English Braille (UEB), including capitals, numbers, punctuation and required indicators; contracted/Grade 2 Braille is out of scope until fully implemented.

How it works

  • Text-to-Braille uses uncontracted English Unified English Braille mappings for supported letters, numbers, capitals and punctuation.
  • Braille-to-text recognizes the corresponding Unicode Braille patterns and indicators implemented by this tool.

Example

  • “A1” uses a capital indicator before the letter and a numeric indicator before the digit sequence.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Contracted/Grade 2 Braille is not supported.
  • This is a text conversion aid, not a substitute for professional transcription where formatting, technical notation or accessibility compliance matters.
  • Unsupported characters are reported rather than silently mapped to an unrelated cell.

Does this support contracted (Grade 2) Braille?

No. The current scope is uncontracted English UEB. Contracted forms are not generated or claimed.
