Morse Code Audio Decoder

Decode Morse from uploaded/recorded audio.

How it works

  • Choose an audio file; the browser decodes it locally and computes a short-window amplitude envelope.
  • The heuristic estimates a dot duration from detected tone pulses, classifies dots/dashes and uses gap lengths to infer letters and words.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Best results require a clean, steady, single-tone Morse signal with little background noise.
  • The decoder is heuristic and can fail on variable speed, fades, interference, music or speech; verify important results against the source audio.

FAQ

Why does clean Morse decode better than noisy recordings?

The local decoder currently classifies tone and silence from amplitude timing. Noise, fading and competing sounds can make those pulse boundaries ambiguous.
